Hello!
I’m Maya Thomas and this is my first official blog post! First off, I appreciate you taking the time and reading this and second off Im just gonna dive right in to why I’m choosing to go on a World Race.
Since I was little I’ve dreamed of seeing the World outside of just my hometown and my region, but since I’m the third child and traveling became a challenge after I came along we never traveled outside the country (is what I like to tell people), but I’ve always had the desires to go and see what everyone was talking about. I grew up with my mom going on missionary trips and coming back with immense amounts of stories and little dresses that came from the ladies wherever she would visit and the stories of when my parents did homeless ministry in Atlanta, so I knew I always wanted to go serve and share the Gospel, but it wasn’t really until I started youth group in 6th grade when my eyes were opened up to the world of missions trip and the reminder of “there is never a junior Holy Spirit” came into full swing. On those Wednesday nights, we’d have missionaries come in and share their own stories of life on the field. It fascinated me, so when I started my Sophomore year in high school I had the idea of taking a gap year and brought this idea to my parents. They were very supportive and so we began research. We talked to one of my mom’s friends, who was a missionary who took a gap year and she gave us the name “World Race.” We began saving money from then on and once my senior year came around we started seeing which trip I really wanted to attend. I chose the three month one, because it will be the first three months of my gap year, which I believe will be a beautiful foundation for the rest of my gap year.
So yes, this is how it all came to be and why I’m choosing to go on the World Race.
Thank you for reading,
Maya Thomas
